Exceptional dates (Top 5 by preference) 1) February 24th - Heavy overnight snows on top of preceding three days snows led to a 6 inch cover by dawn. Snow was around in some form for 10 consecutive days, the snowiest period for quite a few years. 2) July 11th - A very hot day in the strong mid summer sunshine. Costa del Clydesdale 3) January 18th - Heavy morning snow creating another picture postcard scenario, bad roads! 4) September 4th - A very rare hot September day (80ºF+), very pleasant! 5) November 25th - Another surprising morning snowfall, chaos on roads. Additional comments 2005 has been a very average year in many aspects. Temperatures again above average, but in line with global warming adjusted means. Rainfall, sunshine, snowfall, thunder incidence, pressure, all ending up very close to the long term averages. Because of the poor snowfalls of recent years, 2005 ranks alongside 2001 as being the most snowy of the last ten. There was a marked extended dry spell in summer, it was the driest July for 21 years. October was extremely dull, the least sunny locally on record.
