A mild first half and cold snowy end. Overall, with a mean of 3.6C and
60.4 mm of precipitation, December was an average month overall. Temperatures ranged from 10.6C on the 11th and 15th to -7.6C on the morning of the 29th. The wettest day was the 30th, with 16.2 mm of snow and sleet. On the morning of Thursday I recorded the lowest December reading since I moved here in 1996: -7.6C (although December 1995 would have seen lower). The spell 28-30 December set a new record duration for continuous frost in the last ten years - 43 hours, from about 4 pm on the 28th to 11 am on the 30th. Not much to write home about perhaps, but it shows how mild things have been since December 1995. An aside: in spite of rain last night, we still have a cm of snow covering 50% of the ground here.
