I see that Flash warnings have been issued for most of Scotland valid
from 1800 this evening to 0300 tomorrow morning warning of severe gales with gusts to 75 m.p.h. above 800 metres. According to the Met Office website: "These warnings are issued to help the public make informed decisions that protect their life, welfare and property in the event of severe weather in the next few hours". I wonder how many people there are above 800 metres tonight in Scotland? Perhaps the sheep better take note :-) Norman. When I first read your header Norman, I thought I was in for a blizzard or
something tonight. Down here in the central lowlands (albeit sheltered by the Southern uplands in current south easterly) the wind can barely turn the anemometer. Mind you , it is cool, so I think a scarf and gloves alert should be issued. I wonder how many peaks there are over 800m in the Met office South West Scotland region? Less than a dozen I reckon - three or four square miles? I guess there could be people working in the leadhills receiving / radar station thingy mind you, but not sure if that is either 800m+ or if it's manned. I don't believe the sheep are that daft! A good example of weather warning overkill. Alex. "Norman Lynagh" wrote in message ... It's at about 730m, and it's certainly manned, but I'm not sure if that's 24 hours a day. -- Steve Loft, Glenlivet. 200m ASL Weather and webcam: http://www.livet.org.uk/weather |

I heard they were actually trying to get the Welsh bloke behind the sheep.

A good example of weather warning overkill. The Louther masts/domes are c.730m. Never seen anyone up there, but the road is good, so there must be workers up there often. Next thing this will mutate into something to bash the climbers with. After all we are now discouraged form forming a judgement on the weather by taking those nasty ice-o-bears off the telly. Barmy! Its sometimes very windy on hill top shock! Richard Webb |
