Spotted this on the shipping forecast for the next 24 hours:
ROCKALL MALIN SOUTHWEST GALE 8 TO STORM 10, OCCASIONALLY VIOLENT STORM 11 IN ROCKALL, VEERING WEST 5 TO 7 LATER. RAIN THEN SQUALLY SHOWERS. MODERATE OR GOOD HEBRIDES BAILEY FAIR ISLE FAEROES SOUTH 5 TO 7 VEERING SOUTHWEST STORM 10 TO HURRICANE FORCE 12 THEN WEST GALE 8 TO STORM 10. RAIN THEN SQUALLY SHOWERS. MODERATE OR POOR Quite a blow on its way for NW Scotland. The coastal forecasts are showing winds up to force 9 with sea states high to very high. High tide at Oban is 03:24 UTC and 3.2 metres. Not a spring tide, so hopefully no flooding like last year. It's been a while since I last saw seas this high, and I will be over in that part of the world tomorrow! If I get any photographs I'll let you know. Sorry if this post arrives twice, server probs again. John DH |

Here on Skye at 6.40pm. Pressure beginning to rise, now 989.4mm, temp + 10.1
C strongest wind gust: 50mph about an hour ago.. wind is beginning to veer SW. Almost a year to the day since the "storm" last Jan where 5 people died in the outer Hebrides. Forcast for for the next few days does not give much confidence! Continuing severe gales possible storms! Rainfall so far today 10.1mm. I think I am beginning to appreciate the "boring weather" ! At least power is still on! ![]() Alan Larbalestier www.carbostweather.co.uk "John DH" wrote in message ... I remember it well. There is still a lot of evidence arround from last years
storm. I see that North Rona at 1800 recorded max gust of 77 kts 976mb falling. Here in Comrie 56:22:40N 3:59:42W it is starting to get quite windy after a day of rain. "Alan" wrote in message ... Here in Comrie 56:22:40N 3:59:42W it is starting to get quite windy after a day of rain. I've just come back from spending a few days in Comrie, I used to know it well, my grandparents used to live there in the 70's/80's and I have many fond memories of the place as a child. What surprised me that when I arrived there on Saturday there was evidence of what seemed to be a reasonable snowfall, the snow area appeared to start quite abruptly just west of Perth. I guess this must have been from before the New year so there can't have been much of a thaw up there. Weather on Sunday was much better than I thought it would be, expecting grey and overcast but turned out fine and sunny, much pleasant walking was to be had in the area around the Melville monument! This seems to happen quite often. It's been faily cold since the new year, but today, what remains there were of snow have now gone. We didn't get much more than a couple of inches. John DH |

The wind has lessened here on Skye somewhat. Max gust over the last 2 hrs
was 35mph. Rain also stopped at about 6pm at a total so far today of 14mm. Pressure is also rising and is now at 992.7mb. The Met Office site is showing a forecast windspeed for tomorrow of 40mph in our locality which is significantly higher than others are estimating. Alan "John DH" wrote in message ...
