A strange story on BBCTV news a few minutes ago. It was reported that a
message in a bottle thrown into the sea in Morecambe Bay last July has turned up in Australia. The report said it had travelled 9000 miles. I haven't checked the distance but, if correct, that's an average speed of about 2 knots. A bottle would, of course, travel by a meandering route so the actual average speed would have to be higher. I find this story very hard to swallow. I wonder if someone gave the bottle a helping hand on the way :-) Norman. How it got there is anyone guess. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/4627330.stm -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

Even in straight lines out from the bay to off Holyhead then a straight to just off Dakar then straight down to Cape Town and Straight to Perth, Google Earth tells me it's close on 12,500 miles... Not in 3 months ! -- Nick in Northallerton Also @ www.whelan.me.uk And nickw7coc on Yahoo & MSN but I use http://www.trillian.cc as I like it better also on Skype and Google talk |

Well, the BBC eventually worked it out, too... but why on earth it took them 24 hours to get there is beyond me! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/4632770.stm "Message in a bottle 'got a lift' Alesha Johnson got a reply to her message from Australia A four-year-old girl's message in a bottle would have "needed help" to get from Lancashire to Western Australia in six months, an expert has said." -- Dave |
