By comparison with this, the latest from Jakutsk (62N 129E):
UEEE 200100Z 00000MPS 0300 R23L/0350 FG VV002 M49/M53 Q1036 NOSIG For the uninitiated: Calm, Fog (vis 300 m), temp -49°C, pressure 1036. The last 50 or so hourly METARs have been almost identical. The fog is normal and there is probably a considerable contribution to it by the city itself. The temperature is no more than rather low, the January mean being -43°C. In many ways this is more tolerable than blowing snow at -25°C. In the depths of winter Jakutsk gets neither snow nor wind, ironically. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
