I'm not so sure we'll get much snow this far inland (High Wycombe) as most of the precipitation brought about by the "lake effect" of the North Sea will have dropped over Essex & Kent by the time it reaches us. No doubt we'll get a dusting or two though! Interestingly, GFS shows the low further south-east and less deep, but I agree the south-east is on a knife-edge where the VERY cold pool of air over central Europe is concerned. The +276h 850mB map shows -10C air over the sout-east tip. I know the accuracy this far ahead is low, but if it pans out, it could be VERY cold for Essex & Kent with significant snowfall & drifting in a strong north/north-east wind! Don't put the thermal underwear away yet! Nigel Aagh! Every time I learn something new... it pushes something old out of my brain! |

Dave I know how you feel Dave, I've been getting quizzed about the outlook at work and I find myself just not comitting myself and leaving ALL options only. Gosh, I ought to work on BBC weather :-) -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net |

Very little has changed on the GFS (apart from normal day to day variations) since Will first mentioned the 30% probability of something "very interesting" from the East - and that's still how the GFS looks to me. Very interesting, with lots of very cold air not far East of us and at times, touching the East/South East of England. In this situation *anything* could happen and that's a lot better for lovers of snow and cold than we can usually say at this time of year, these days. ![]() -- Dave Fareham ....who will probably miss the fun anyway, even if there is any fun! ![]() |

Agree Dave, but Keith and I are just working on pure superstition these

What element(s) at T+0 produce these models to show an omega block in the coming week? There must be something going on, jet stream, troughs etc, that indicate such changes. -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net |
