Default 850hPa temperature watchers

A great example of this useless stand-alone guide for surface temperatures
is from the Watnall 11Z ascent this morning. Ascending through the
atmosphere we have the following temperatures at the corresponding heights
and pressure levels:

117m (sfc) - PS01.8degC (1022hPa)
862m - MS04.3degC (931hPa)
1327m - PS04.4degC (879hPa)
1600m - PS03.2degC (850hPa)

So a temperature at 850hPa of 3.2degC but a surface temperature of 1.8degC.

Downstream observations show drier boundary layers with little Sc trapped
underneath the subsidence inversion. Brightness showing at the following
places -
