Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Tuesday. Issued 0542,
26 Jan 06. The runs continue to show a largely settled start to next week with high pressure close to the UK. However, there are signs of a change as the week progresses, with both the GEM and GFS showing low pressure affecting the UK in the 7 to 10 day timeframe. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif High pressure is centred to the east, with a ridge over Scotland. Winds are SE'lies for Northern Ireland with ENE'lies across England and Wales. There's very little change at T+144, but by T+168 winds become light westerlies for many as high pressure declines to the south. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif MetO also shows a ridge from the east, this time bringing SW'lies across Scotland and southerlies across Northern Ireland. Much of England and Wales lies under an ENE'ly flow, followed by a mixture of SSW'lies and easterlies at T+144 as a trough approaches from the west. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png High pressure covers the UK at T+120 and T+144, resulting in light winds for many. The exceptions are SW'lies over NW Scotland and ENE'lies over southern England. By T+168 the high moves away to the east, allowing a mixture of southerlies and SE'lies to affect the UK. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian runshows easterlies and NE'lies over much of the UK due to a high over northern Scotland. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...260000_120.gif As with the other runs, high pressure dominates the UK. This time it's centred ober Ireland, leading to northerlies for much of the UK. The high moves SE'wards over the Severn Estuary at T+144, bringing SW'lies across Scotland and Northern Ireland with lighter NW'lies for much of England. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows a high centred west of Denmark, leading to ENE'lies over much of England and southerlies elsewhere. The high declines to the east at T+144 with little change for the UK. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif NOGAPS is similar to the JMA, with the centre of high pressure to the east. Again, a mixture of southerlies and ENE'lies covers the UK as a result. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean run shows a high over Scotland and a mix of easterlies and SE'lies elsewhere. |
