Interesting to see your precip total Martin = 7.7mm. We received only
1mm in S. Devon. Max rate 0.4mm/hr at 04:00.

I guess that your rainfall has made no real impression on the surface.
When I was up in the SE 2 weeks ago I was staggered as to how dry it
was. Even though it has been an extremely dry winter in the SW we are
positively basking in surface moisture in comparison!

.... still (1112Z) coming down at a steady moderate pace - will check the
extra amount ~12Z. Beginning to be quite 'useful', at least as regards
soil moisture, but we would need many more such events to make any
impact on the overall hydrology of this winter so far hereabouts.

Martin.

Martin, I am also at 80m, but have higher ground to the S & SW (as I am on
the northern side of the North Downs) - are you in a flat area?
just wondered if there was any other reason why you have more rain!

5.8mm here so far today.

Phil

.... we are pretty flat; no orographic reason that I can bring to mind to
explain a difference - more likely a function of the variability in the
(diffuse) frontal zone which is evident in the radarnet imagery: the
green/yellow "blobs" have been biased more towards us ;-)

Martin.

8.9 mm in Chalfont St Giles up to 0900z and a further 2.5 mm to 1300z.
Probably a slight bit of orographic enhancement due to the proximity of
the Chiltern Hills.
