Default 1cm Snow in Fleet, Hampshire

Light snow for much of the day, but no accumulation.

Now moderate - heavy, settling readily on most surfaces. Approx 1cm and
increasing. Plenty more to come looking at the radar.

Odd because I have just looked at the radar and there seems to be a
distinct clearance now not far east of you.

Well I'm not going to waste my time arguing the definition of plenty, but
it's still snowing nearly an hour after I posted.

The extent of the clearance is uncertain (clear slot now across east
Kent
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html) but even so
there's a
lot of concern about ice as cold air (sub 522dam cold pool) advects
west
over wet surfaces. Flash warnings for ice have been issued
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/.../warnings.html

.... the Manston sequence (lowering dew point, well broken cloud) is
worrying - I've seen some tricky ice develop in these situations even
when the cloud hasn't broken completely - evaporative cooling with in
the steady easterly would be enough to lead to localised ice after all
the PPN today - and the surface has also now been chilled quite
effectively.
