![]() ================================================== ================== This posting expresses the personal view and opinions of the author. Something which everyone on this planet should be able to do. ================================================== ================== 1745 Just come back from evening recce. Snow down to 180m asl. Trees all white. 2cm at home accumulating quickly in continuous light to moderate snow. Snow settled on old snow higher up giving an estimated depth of 6cm but difficult to tell as it is scouring and starting to drift in the strengthening wind. People were already sledging on the top slopes in the fog and sledging conditions look to be perfect with fresh snow on a firm rather icy base. Temperature started to rise a little now at -0.2 deg C but any rise above freezing will be temporary with colder air to the east advecting in. Dartmoor - the snow capital of England (OK only for today, but I'm milking this :-) ) I await the hordes of tourists at the weekend VBG Will. -- " Ah yet another day to enjoy " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Max here of 2.9C today Will and lingered there for some time - only now started to drop but quite quickly down to 1.8C so it's on the way. Dave, S.Essex, 1840Z, 1.8C,98%RH, 1021mb, 30m ASL |

Would you say the snow depths will remain as you suggest all weekend Will? R Depends how much sunshine we get. The south slopes of Hay Tor melt quite quickly in strong sunshine (and we are a long way south in the UK). If it stays quite cloudy then depths will only go down a centimetre or two. Having said that I haven't a clue how much is up there now, given the strength of the wind I would estimate 7 cms with deeper patches to 15 cms but just a thin icy covering on slopes fully exposed to the wind. However, it looks like that any visitors coming up to the moors this weekend to see snow and perhaps do a bit of sledging won't be disappointed, just don't come expecting alpine-like conditions :-) Apres sledge anyone in the Warren House Inn :-) Will. -- |
