Default Nice sun dog?

Not sure if Im using the right name. This evening in Guildford I saw
what looked like a short bit of rainbow to one side of the sun. I
thought sun dogs were more of a 'bright coloured spot' whereas this one
seemed to extend in a rainbow arc upwards. It seemed to be partly
obscured by a cloud in front of it. The general sky around the 'rainbow'
seemed hazy - ice crystals?? Was this a sun dog? Thanks
