The last forecast I saw (Helen Willets, BBC1, 22:30) gave the impression that Scotland, S of Fort William, was in danger of being devastated. As it was, we had the quietest night since 19th December. It's at about 6m effective height for SW'lies, so not as well exposed as those you quote. I don't adjust the max gusts for height to standard 10m, Met O states not to. I agree with Col, a pretty good forecast, Newcastle TAF was going for 65KT (allow+9KT) yesterday at 1651Z, see Jon's post last night. The timings they gave were superb imho. Web cam at http://www.ufcnet.net/~alanlesley1/kabcam.htm This was a very quickly developing situation and the low could have tracked anywhere from the Great Glen to the Solway Firth, in the end it tracked across the Scottish Borders. You happen to be a location that was GREATLY affected by the exact track. That should not distract from the fact the Forcasts and the Warnings have been excellent. |

Just "quite windy" here - max wind speed 37mph (high F7), with highest gust 59mph. We now have snow showers and a F6. -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

The forecasts and warnings over the last month have consistently overestimated the severity of the weather.
