Default Cumbrian Rain

Finally back on line after a few days of misery without power, only limited
damage to the house and fortunately no flooding . I had no idea it was as
bad up here until the TV was back on this morning. I have lived and worked
in Carlisle for 20 years and never thought I would see it like it was -
enough said

some of my photos can be found at
http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/wea...TOPIC_ID=34040

Can I thank all those that warned of this weather, especially the Met
Office - spot on.

Rainfall

Interest to hear from anyone with a rain gauge in Cumbria.Totals were for
Friday/Saturday/Sunday please if possible, try to collate a picture of how
much rain fell and where

many thanks

Some good images there Paul. Thanks for that.
I looks like there is a massive amount of work to tidy the mess up. I feel
for all those affected.

Why do these idiots continue to live in a known flood zone and expect others
who choose to live in a sensible area to bail them out. As rain falls to the
ground It will continue to be influenced by the force of gravity i.e. It
will tend to keep going down via the path of least resistance until it
reaches the sea or the natural water table. If you were to use this
phenomena when buying a house you will be safe. Now, this rain will follow
newtons first law which in simplicity states that water will continue to
follow the same path for thousands of years unless a resistance i.e. a house
is built in its path, what happens then is that the water is diverted and
will again follow its path of least resistance. This path you will see many
times in England for example Carlisle, Boscastle, Sri lanka, Indonesa and
Bridgnorth.

When will we learn not to tamper with Nature..

Abraham

I think you off the plot with this one !

Some of the houses have been there for 200 years and never been flooded
And some people don't have much choice about where they live, i.e. money !!

sorry I have to disagree with your opening sentence

Paul

I meant recently built houses, structures or landscaping which have the
these areas to flood. You must locate the root cause and you will find the
source of the problem. Dont blame "global warming" etc because this is
fiddlefaddle

If Sri Lanka and Indonesia are now in England along with Carlisle, Boscastle
and Bridgnorth, then some very serious tampering with nature is going on ...

Well apparently one of the papers is carrying an article about
development somewhere in Carlisle which has been too close to the
river? But I hasten to add I have no personal knowledge of the River
Eden and what is or is not on or adjacent to the river's flood plain!
Cheers Robin
