Default Goodbye Winter

Not sure how many others on this NG feel, but I for one feel that the UK
winters especially here in the southeast are set mild for the forseeable
future.
For a number of years now I have looked forward to a good old fashioned
winter with at least some snow to liven thing up, but here we are nearly
half way through January and still nothing in sight.

I find the likes of Metcheck and TWO consistently forecasting a change to
colder conditions, but always ten to fourteen days away. And it just doesn't
happen.

Roll on the warm days of summer with the barbie alight and a few glasses of
red wine.

Best regards. Len.

Len, I wrote off winter last February, but we will always have to put up
with severe winter forecasts from parts of the private sector for years
to come. Why global warming has knackered our winters so badly I still
do not fully understand - see my thread UK Winters; where I am trying to
seek help.
Cheers

Paul, winters without a doubt are struggling to live up to their name in
recent times, however your white flag makes me feel uncomfortable as I still
firmly believe chaos theory will ensure that Britain experiences a decent
freeze again at some point during the next 10 years. Probably when all the
white flags are raised, hence an unsuspecting public will suffer!

Len, you can keep the Barbie - I'll just have the wine, thanks.

We've had to turn the heating down at work in the last few days,
unreal!!

Mean here is 6.6c, which is 3.6c above my 1971-2000 average and 1.2c
above my warmest January on record (1960-2004).
No air frost yet after 11 days, lowest 1.6c and maximum temps have hit
double figures on more than half of them.
I'm even more worried about February after the last 8!!
Maybe we are heading for the warmest Jan, Feb and Winter on record,
followed by blizzards in March and April

The mean here this month is 8.5C, which is 4.2C above the 71-00 LTA for
January for near here. Just two days have failed to reach 10C, but one
day did drop (briefly) to -0.2C (0705 on 5th). Maximum temperature this
month so far is 13.0C on the 7th. Just 11.9mm of rain so far.

Oh how familiar does this sound! I was just a boy in the 70's but I
heard everybody complaining that the "nowadays winters" just couldn't be
compared to the winters of the old days. Winters were always
mild/windy/wet. And then the winters of the 80's followed!
I guess it's just a phase we're in right now and in 10 years time we're
be looking back with the same amusement I now have when looking back to
all those comments people made during the 70's.

Wot? You mean it's gonna get even warmer than this come
summer?........ I'd be having BBQs now - if the wind didn't keep
blowing 'em away!
