Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0617z,
12/01/05. The charts show a mobile setup with wet and windy weather for much of the UK. Southern and eastern areas of England look like escaping the worst, with high pressure never far away. There'll be a fair bit of snow over the mountains of Scotland by the looks of it, although colder incursions of air will be shortlived further south. ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif High pressure covers eastern Europe, with a ridge over England and Wales. Winds are southerlies or SSE'lies across most of the UK, although much of Scotland lies under SW'lies. SW'lies cover the whole of the UK at T+144 as the ridge sinks SE'wards, followed by westerlies and WNW'lies as high pressure builds to the SW on day 7. MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html Complex low pressure surrounds Iceland, while high pressure is centred over western France. This results in WSW'lies across the UK, followed by stronger westerlies at T+144 as a trough moves eastwards. GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif WSW'lies and SW'lies cover the UK, due to high pressure to the south and east. 850hPa temperatures vary from -2C over NW Scotland to +3C over SE England. The winds strengthen at T+144 as the result of a secondary low to the NW, followed by westerlies for all on day 7 as a trough moves eastwards. Day 8 sees another secondary low to the WNW, with strong WSW'lies. By day 9 another trough moves eastwards, bringing WNW'lies for all. The winds become NW'lies on day 10 as a ridge builds to the west. GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html A trough lies to the west, resulting in SW'lies for the UK. The winds become westerlies at T+144 as the trough moves swiftly eastwards at T+144, followed by SW'lies and NW'lies from another trough on day 7. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...110000_120.gif Unavailable today. JMA: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rjma1201.html Strong SW'lies affect the UK, again with a trough to the west. SW'lies persist at T+144 before a trough moves eastwards to bring colder westerlies to all for day 7. Day 8 sees much milderer and stronger westerlies as the Azores High ridges over France and Iberia. NOGAPS: http://129.13.102.67/wz/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif NOGAPS is another run showing a ridge to the SE and a trough to the west; the result is similar to the others with SW'lies for all. GM CPTEC: http://www.cptec.inpe.br/prevnum/Global126_sx6_Gl.shtml A ridge lies to the west of the UK, leading to strong northerlies and NNW'lies. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A large high lies to the ESW and complex low pressure is located to the north and west. This brings SSW'lies across the UK. |
