Well here we are half way through the first month of 2005, and what a 2
week spell of weather it has been. Although we had our strongest wind gust since at least 1986 last weekend, though of us in the Midlands have had a quiet, almost benign spell of weather so far - dare I say it, almost pleasantly mild dry and sunny - not what I would prefer, but not bad at all, almost spring like. Statistics for the first 14 days reveal that the average temperature has been 7.0C in Coventry ( 30 year mean = 4.2C). The only warmer January months to compare with this locally would be 1916 & 1971. We have missed out on the rain too, with just 7.0mm so far, 75% below normal for the first 2 weeks of January. It has been pleasantly sunny too with 32.3 hours of sunshine = 30% above normal. I see forecasts of a change by next weekend, but nevertheless, it has been a remarkable first two weeks of 2005 down here. -- Steve Jackson Bablake Weather Station Coventry www.nelink.co.uk/users/bws |
