Now we are half way through August it is perhaps time to think about what
the CET maybe for this month. Although I have not kept written records. From what I have seen so far, at a reasonable guess I would say my mean is in excess of 21C. There have been no single figure minimums. I have had 7 days with maximums in excess of 30. 4 of those have been in excess of 32C with a 34 and a 38. Those days with maximums over 30 were followed by minimums of between 16 and 18 so it stands to reason what the mean is for those. August 1st so far is the only cool day I have had. From looking at forecasts for the next week or so it seems that the intense heat will not be repeated. This will not be an August like 1995. Anyway it is still too early to say. I wonder what others think. -- ************************************************** ************************** ************************************************** * Gavin Staples. website updated regularly www.gavinstaples.com For the latest news on the UK heatwave, click on my URL, and then click on weather forecast. It will drop given that it less hot but it is likely that this August will be exceptionally warm given the forecasts. Alan |

Being in a suburban location outside Leicester, I usually beat the CET, but not by that much. I would expect that this wil come down but IMO there is a real possibility that the CET for this month will be above the 1995 record of 19.20C Martin -- Created on the Iyonix PC - the new RISC OS computer. |

Although I have not kept written records. .... as of 14th, the provisional CET was 20.0degC, an anomaly on the 6190 set of +4.2degC, or on the 7100 set of +3.8degC. Although we should now 'relax' more to the average values across the CET domain, it looks unlikely to become significantly lower than average, and there are indications that values may climb again several degrees above .... .... what is more interesting to my mind is the running *annual* anomaly of around +1.4degC up to the 14th: If we carry on like this, we will drive a 'coach and horses' through the previous record annual CET values (set in 1949, 1990, 1999 & 2002)... 1990 and 1999 technically the highest with 10.63degC.
