More snow overnight, we now have 6cm snow and 2 or 3 times that where
it's drifted. The snow on the ground is still drifting now in the F5 (estimated, anemometer frozen) SW'ly. Beautiful sky this morning, pinks and blues, but darkening now from the west. Looks like it's going to start snowing again shortly. Temp -2.3C, overnight min -2.5. 988 mb. -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

I can't believe there's more snow here than in Wanlockhead.
It doesn't happen very often! A fairly level 8cms here, and snowing moderate to heavy since around 8.30am. This is the greatest depth of snow at this site for 3 years, when we reached 8cm on 23rd February 2002. A very nice site. Shame it's expected to rain this afternoon. But the roads are a disaster, no doubt many will fail to get to work this morning. As ever, picture on the front page of my website. Thank you for blowing it all this way Steve. It's hard to imagine this'll change to rain anytime soon down here. Tut tut, came past here, blade down, last night once in each direction about midnight and again this morning about 0830 and again at 1230. There was about 1cm at midnight and that had increased to 2.5cm this morning. Around 1000 the winds picked up and started to shift it about, visibilty much reduced, then it started to snow and left another 2.5cm. Couple of shorter snow showers since 1100. Conditions now very light and broken cloud with sunny intervals 0.7C F3 WNW. -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

I think they must have had a problem - a plough arrived eventually but it wasn't the usual one, it was a funny looking little one. And the Lanark to Sanquhar bus service seems not be running today. Looks like you're in for a few hours of interesting weather according to the latest MO weather warnings! -- Steve Loft, Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire. 1417ft ASL http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/weather/ Free weather softwa http://cumulus.nybbles.co.uk/ Experimental webcam: http://www.wanlockhead.org.uk/webcam.php |

Well, we don't get any snow anymore do we, not like the old days... I must remember to ask permission to use some photos taken around this house that are in the local museum, road a channel through a 12' bank, digging through 3' deep lying snow etc. Looks like you're in for a few hours of interesting weather according to the latest MO weather warnings! Well looking out of the window and at the radar I don't see it. It's an F4 to F5 NW'ly, still about 1C so a gentle thaw is taking place, before the light went it was a pleasant occasionally sunny evening, provided you were out of the wind, -15C windchill... -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

Now if that flash warning (now vanished from the meto website...) had been issued about 0800 it would have been more reasonable. It was really rather 'orrible up between 1000 and 1100. Now if me, a very amateur forecaster, can see that it isn't going to precipitate much or be particulary windy from public data on the web how come the meto get it so wrong? It's not even blowing a gale on the top of GDF, just F7 Near Gale. Come on Sods Law... -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |
