Disclaimer: The forecaster is not responsible for losses or damage
incurred by the forecast-user. The forecast-user is responsible for his own actions at all times. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Easter 2005 looks like being a generally mild south-westerly one this year with cooler air coming into the west of the country towards the end. . The small touches of high pressure are for the south and south-east of England, while the north-west of the country suffers the most rain showers. Apart from the limited build-up of high pressure on Saturday, and a strengthening of depressions coming into western areas for Sunday and Monday, there doesn't seem to be anything exciting going on at all. Thursday, 24th March sees the last portion of an anticyclone (just covering S, SE and E England) moving east and south-eastwards. The main centre of the HP system lies over central France. To the north-west of the country, a depression drifts a little towards the NW of Scotland. Cyclonically curved isobars cover Ireland and west Scotland and fronts are coming into the west of the country. Out in the Atlantic, a secondary lying to the south of the Scottish depression is tracking towards the south-west of Ireland. Friday, 25th. As the main depression drifts to the north and north-west of Scotland, its secondary approaches the south-west of Ireland. Fronts of the secondary approach the south-west of England. The last of the anticyclone still influences East Anglia and the south-east of England. Mild winds between south-west and south cover the country. Saturday, 26th. The depression to the north-west of the country appears to weaken a little as high pressure into the south-west of England builds up across the south and south-east of England and the North Sea. Mild south-westerly winds cover the country. This is perhaps the brightest day of the lot. Sunday, 27th. There is a chance of high pressure coming down the east side of Scotland which is trying to join up with high pressure drifting up the Channel towards France. Between the two there may be a small area of rain near Kent which is moving away and fading. A weak depression to the north-west of Scotland is slow moving. . An important feature is a strong secondary depression to the west and south-west of Ireland which is moving eastwards. Monday, 28th. High pressure lies to the south, south-east and east of Britain. A depression lies to the NW of Scotland and a strong secondary depression near Ireland tracks into the country. It should bring a lot of rain and some strong winds into the south-west of Britain. Winds remain mild from the south-west, but cooler winds come into the west and south-west of Britain from the Atlantic That's the forecast. It has a running-time of about 11 weeks which is shorter than the running-time for the Christmas Outlook. This has no effect on the outcome of the forecast. So it looks like a mild Easter with the best weather in the south and south-east of the country. North-west and west Scotland as well as Northern Ireland would seem to have the most rain. Eastern Scotland may have an improvement to its weather on occasions, but this is not all that certain. Cooler air lies over the near Atlantic and this is drawn towards western districts in the last few days. If anyone else is working on an Easter forecast it would be good to hear from them and perhaps get a discussion going. Cheers, Keith |
