The current (1520Z) METAR shows a temperature of 2°C. This must be
wrong. The temperature in my screen (5 miles west of Biggin Hill, same altitude) is 3.9°C at the moment (1658Z), about a degree lower than at 1520Z, according to the thermograph. Gatwick currently has 6°C. I have long suspected the Biggin Hill temperatures as being low but this looks even more in error than usual. However, we should be grateful for small mercies. The previous METAR (1420Z) showed a temperature of -49°C, dewpoint -57°C, so the Chinook has arrived. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey, 556 ft. |

Absolutely correct Tudor and I have noticed this as well. I agree with your
readings and there is no substitute for a committed, knowledgeable, experienced and interested observer even though your readings are not from a "official" based network on an airfield. Ian Currie-Coulsdon www.frostedearth.com Unfortunately it all comes down to what the 'customer' is prepared to pay for. I wonder what Tudor's rates are.. ;-) Jon. |
