The cyclone is forecast to weaken to category three by the time it reaches the city on Tuesday afternoon, the spokesman said." Only a cat three when it hits Darwin tomorrow (!) Cheers, Dave |

It's slated for the Indian Ocean by the 25th, and the phase doesn't end until the 27th. Not that I am saying it will last that long. It's an odd one though. There again of course I am not saying it won't last another month after that: 27 APR. 19 44 = Unstable anticyclonic. 5 MAY 05 13 = Unstable anticyclonic. 13 MAY 06 51 = Cyclonic. 19 MAY 09 21 = Cyclonic with a hint of thunder. Boy, wouldn't that be something to tell the kids. |

Record low is 870 - Typhoon Tip. Where are you getting this information? I haven't seen anything below 900 hPa reported (but I could have missed it). Here is the latest High Seas Report from: http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDD20130.txt "HURRICANE WARNING FOR NORTHERN AREA SITUATION At 1200 UTC Severe Tropical Cyclone Monica estimated within 15 nautical miles of 12.0 S 133.7 E moving WESTSOUTHWEST at 7 knots. Central pressure 935 hPa. AREA AFFECTED Within 60 nautical miles of the centre. FORECAST Sustained winds to 100 knots near centre deceasing to 60 knots within 12 to 24 hours." -- Dave |

Thanks Graham, I didn't look beyond the Satellite image! Just shows you how quickly these cat 5 storms can weaken when they get near land. I see it's now down to 40 knots inland and heading well to the South of Darwin. -- Dave |
