Further to yesterday's thread, look at the detail that's available
in South Africa. This radar is at Irene, very close to Centurion where the present Test Match is being played. There's a broadbrush radar composite available too. I shan't say what I'm thinking .... :-) http://metsys.weathersa.co.za/IR.html Philip Eden |

One of the commentators effectively said that he refused to believe any weather forecasts given to him, because of the fact that the thunderstorms which delayed play were forecasted to arrive by the close of play, not the midafternoon when they did. To my mind, he was insinuating that the local meteorologists hadn't got a clue... -- Rob Overfield Hull http://www.astrosport02.karoo.net/YorkshireWeather/ |

They have shown some of the most amazing thunderstorm pictures I have ever seen - stuff that we dont see in this country, and if we did would have you diving for the nearest bomb shelter if you had any sense. The first one this afternoon was even whipping up something that looked like a tornado, but the cameras dont dwell for too long. |

![]() wrote The first one this afternoon was even whipping up something that looked like a tornado, but the cameras dont dwell for too long. I tried a screen grab, but not very good. I think it was a pretty impressive dust devil at the right hand edge of this picture http://www.itadvice.co.uk/weatherjack/cricket.jpg not actually a tornado as intimated by the commentator But again it really makes the point That looked bl--dy dangerous. However, all that the umpires seemed to be considering was the light level. PS David Gower just used the term "tropical storm"!!! I suppose that is a bit too of a specialist term to expect him to get it right. Jack |

You can and do get supercells in south Africa presumably with their
attendant tornadoes. AFAIK there's people who chase them too (: Les PS David Gower just used the term "tropical storm"!!! I suppose that is a bit too of a specialist term to expect him to get it right. Jack |
