writes Rainfall radar http://www.metoffice.com/weather/eur...animation.html Rain moves away from northern England early on Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms in East Anglia in the afternoon. Heavy showers develop over Wales in the afternoon and move into the Midlands and SE England in the evening. Showers in the north of Scotland. "Rain moves away from northern England early on Saturday afternoon." No it bloody didn't. Woke to heavy rain 0700-0800, followed by drizzle most of the morning. Keeping an eye on the radar suggested a dry afternoon in prospect as the block of rain drifted away to the east. So I set to some work in Mum's garden. Constant light drizzle, becoming periods of light rain 1500-1700. None of which showed up on the radar _at all_. I'm just relived I took Wednesday off and went cycling the Dales. Fantastic day. -- steve Weather at Scotton, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire http://www.knaresboroughweather.co.uk |

I spoke to my sister in Bradford earlier this evening. She said it had been wet for much of the day. I was surprised to see that the radar showed nothing after mid-afternoon. Cold as well - as no doubt you noticed http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EGNM.html . Colin Youngs Brussels |

I expected it to last all afternoon, so I was prepared for it... -- Rob Overfield Hull http://talkingtoomuchagain.blogspot.com |

After the expected morning rain there was drizzle for most of the afternoon which didn't show up on the radar. Now this sometimes happens here in a warm sector situation, hour after hour of drizzle but not in a cold front sceanario. Col -- Bolton, Lancashire. 160m asl. |

Not particularly cold and even slightly warmer than average in the south, but strangely it *felt* unconfortably cool sitting out. Contrast April 22nd when temperatures were similar but it felt not just warm, but hot. I'd imagine the main factor here is to do with adjustment to higher temperatures, and is the downside of early warm or hot spells; though maybe the airmass was a factor too? Relative humidity higher? What we need now is a spell of cold but bright northerlies (like we had in early April) with temps below 15C, so next time the max climbs above that figure it will feel warm again! Nick |
