Default Active trough in Brussels

Brussels on Saturday 20th May

Cloudy start after some overnight rain. Sunny intervals by mid-morning.

Series of heavy, squally showers with hail and several peals of thunder from
11.30 to 13.00 local time. Brighter for a time but another shower at
14.15 - again with a clap of thunder. Series of lighter blustery showers
15.30 to 17.00 separated by brief bright intervals. Overcast evening with
slight rain at times.

Fresh SW wind with strong gusts in the showers - 42 kn gust reported from
Uccle and 49 kn gust from Brussels Airport. Cool.

A couple of miles from where I live a tree was brought down by the wind just
in front of a moving tram. Driver slightly hurt and very shocked but
passengers unharmed. As this is the tram route I take to go into the
centre of Brussels, perhaps it is fortunate that I decided not to go because
of the bad weather ...

At Moorsele near Kortrijk in West Flanders a whirlwind damaged several dozen
houses - roof tiles and guttering were blown off.

Brussels Uccle 14.5°C - overnight minimum 10.6°C - and 11 mm rain.
Brussels Airport 15.5°C - overnight minimum 10.5°C - and 11 mm.
