Default Today's model interpretation (24/05/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0535z,
24 May 06.

The models are mixed today. The European runs show high pressure affecting
the UK at the beginning of next week, but it's only a transitory thing. MetO
and GFS show reasonable agreement of a northerly setting in after that, with
the latter bringing sub -5C 850 air over Scotland to start the summer. It's
looking drier than late over England and Wales, with Scotland and Northern
Ireland seeing the majority of the rain.

ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif
NW'lies cover the UK, which lies between low pressure to the NE and high
pressure to the SW. The high ridges over England and Wales at T+144, with
SW'lies elsewhere. By T+168 SW'lies cover the whole of the UK as the high
moves eastwards and declines.

MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif
A mixture of westerlies and SW'lies cover the UK, with a ridge atop England,
Wales and eastern Scotland. The winds become northerlies and NW'lies at
T+144 as a low deepens and moves swiftly eastwards across Scotland and over
the North Sea.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
High pressure lies to the SW with westerlies as a result for the UK. A
trough sinks southwards at T+144, bringing NW'lies for much of England and
Wales with northerlies for Scotland and Northern Ireland. By day 7 chilly
northerlies cover the whole of the UK, with pressure building over Iceland.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
As with ECM, the UK is sandwiched between a high to the SW and a low to the
NE; this leads to NW'lies for all.

JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run brings NW'lies across the UK due to a ridge to the west.
The ridge moves slowly eastwards at T+144 with further NW'lies.

NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif
The UK lies under light westerlies with a shallow low to the north and high
pressure over Biscay.
