Default Wrong sort of rain for radar?

I noticed that no rainfall appeared on the UKMO radar for my area until
4.00pm, not even the "slight" blue. It was raining more or less continuously
here from about 11.30 a.m. It was mainly moderate (what we tend to call fine
rain) but nevertheless amounted to 3mm. Did anyone else notice that?

Dave, S.Essex.

Less than that here (though I haven't measured it yet) but quite
a spell of rain so "fine" I'd call it drizzle. Maybe the droplets were
too small to be detected by radar.

Definitely not drizzle. It was sufficiently heavy to cause splashing in the
puddles and someone at Benfleet (not far away) said it had been "pouring all
day". Most peculiar

I suspect a radar was out of the network and more distant radars were filling in
from longer range and looking over the top of the rain.

What would be the point of that and how does it affect the way digital
data is collated for model runs? A touch of the Andrew Lanes by the
sound of it. Can we have a name to curse in our prayers?

Who is the minister of cock ups for the weather? That's the Home Office
again isn't it? Not the only things they overlook.
