BRACKNELL (TAWFIELD)
0900 WSW F2 20km - 3/CI T184D123
RMK: [CAVOK] - 3Ci (a rare old mixture, probably betraying the
instability aloft)~250/300: majority dense (s****atus) to NE, but
overhead fibrous (fib), hooked (unc) & one patch with a distinct
'backbone' (vertebratus). Otherwise of course, it's a fine morning!
[ OVERNIGHT DATA (18Z - 09Z):
screen min: 10.9 grass min: 08.0 precipitation: NIL [24hr total: 00.0
mm]
other data: A few Ac floccus 'tufts' apparent ~05Z, with quite a low
base I think - around 120, but disappeared about an hour later. ]=

RMK: 1Cu med & con (at least two cells) distant to E & NE~050, 1 Cu
hum~060, 2Ci fib~300+. Until quite recently, Cu development limited by
evaporation & shear of tops, but recently, the above more potent
activity has been seen. Sky very milky.=

1700 NNE F2 30km -SHRA 1/CB T261D118
RMK: 1Cb cal~050(guess) well to east, as part of a line of at least 5
cells of Cu congestus. Also present, 2 Cu med (overhead)~060, producing
the local PPN, with some Sc Cugen~070 and Cu hum also in the sky. One of
those coding oddities where there doesn't appear to be enough cloud to
produce the rain! Just a few spots in bright/strong sunshine.=

1800 NNE F3 30km -SHRA 1/CB 3/SC T254D118
RMK: Wind very 'flukey', from near calm one point to near F4 within a
couple of minutes. 1Cb cal/1Cu con (possibly 'hidden' Cb cap) in a line
of several cells running from ENE - S. Also 1Cu med (overhead)~055, 3Sc

impact on surface or visibility (at least here).

other data: Warmest day of the year so far, exceeding the 26.6°C of the

.... 1805Z first distant thunder heard, now near-overhead with rain more
'definite', though still slight.

.... 1840Z thunder now easing (but still relatively close-by), as is
rain. Recent very short spell moderate rain, which has dampened ground,
but sky clearing slowly from north. Very oppressive, presumably the
evaporating water has lifted the humidity.

Martin.

1900 WSW F1-2 35km - 1/CB T213D143
RMK: [RE-TSRA] - 1Cb cap & cal (all along southern horizon), with Cu
con/TCU associated. Various Cu hum/Sc Cugen/Ac Cbgen fragments, with
sheet 2Sc Cugen drifting overhead~060. Ci s****atus cumulonimbogenitus
anvils~220/250 (very distant) to south-southeast. As noted in [WR]
reports, -TS/-RA (ocnl RA) from 1805Z, ceased by 1845Z. It has been the
sort of evening that ex-pats dream of when abroad: a late thunderstorm
to dampen the ground, with the sun returning, the birds in full cry, and
insects rising up all around. Just needs the sound of a cricket match in
the distance and it would be 'perfick' :-) =
