Interesting - we had 27.3 in West Horsley (Guildford approx 8 miles)and
28.7 the day before.

I calibrated the sensor about 6 months ago - perhaps I'd better check it
again.

Cheers

Good point Bernard.

The station is not in an ideal position, being in a flower bed rather
than in the middle of a patch of grass the size of a football pitch :-)

I think the radiation shield is OK though.

I have a spare radiation shield so I'll pop my calibrated PT100 in that
and stick it in the middle of the garden. It'll be interesting to see
what the difference is though I can already hear "your not leaving that
thing there" from SWMBO!!

Phil, if you see this, what sort of location do you have your Temp
Sensor in?

Cheers

Neil

Perhaps you could look at the exposure? Do you have an unrestricted flow
around your site, or is there an object that would put the sensor in the lee
of it, causing air stagnation? Is your radiation shield or screen adequate.?

Neil,

My site (Vantage Pro screen) is 5ft up a pole also in a flower bed, and to
be honest is fairly sheltered with a high conifers at one end of the garden
and 6ft shrubs.fences on the other two.
I tend to get high readings when there is a northerly drift.

The anemomether is about 20ft up, and gives very ambiguous readings when the
wind is in the S-SW ( think it gets turbulence off the house) - thats why I
dont connect it up for live data and often do not use it - but having fallen
off a ladder when it was on the roof, I dont intend to go up there again!

One of lifes compromises..that said, my other readings fit in well with the
surrounding reports - and Heathrow is a good bench mark - If my maximum is
higher than the airports summats up!

Phil

Sounds like we have a pretty similar set up then.

My anemometer is on a 3m pole fixed to the chimney on the very top of
the gable end of the house. Like yours, it does tend to be a bit
ambiguous with a northerly wind, mainly due to a neighbours oak tree
about 30M due north. However, it does give a fairly reasonable idea of
wind direction even if it's not 100% accurate so, for me, its useful.

If you want your anemometer sorting out, drop me a line. I've done a lot
of climbing in my time so it probably wouldn't be too much of a problem
getting up there ;-)

Regards

Neil

Thanks very much for the offer Neil. At the moment I have a wired system so
the anemometer needs to be fairly near the other recorders.
I'll have a think!

Ahh! my Vantage Pro is wireless - Made things so much easier to install
but somewhat more expensive.

Let me know if you need my "rigging" services!

Cheers
