uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

BRACKNELL (TAWFIELD) 0900 SSE F3 30km - 1/AC 3/AC 5/CI T242D162 RMK: [CAVOK] - 1Ac cas (actually almost a 'trace')~100: this latter was a much more definite element of the medium levels up to about an hour ago, 3Ac (thinning/increasingly broken)~120 (the retreating western edge of a multi-level sheet that dominated the sky earlier), 5Ci, thick sheaves etc., ~250/280. Given the cloud character earlier and now, I guess a well-marked upper trough/front has passed overhead (from the west), and the marked descent to the rear has killed off the mid-level activity. For a time around 06Z, we had 1Cu med~060 development, but that rapidly fizzled. [ OVERNIGHT DATA (18Z - 09Z): screen min: 17.2 grass min: 14.7 precipitation: NIL [24hr total: 00.0 mm] other data: Probably going to be the best part of the day - high humidity, but not (yet) too warm. ]= -- Bracknell (Wooden Hill/Tawfield), Berkshire, UK NGR: SU 854 667 Elev: 80m Lat: 51° 23' 30'' N: Long: 00° 46' 28'' W |

This latter a simplification, as there are undoubtedly at least two layers of Cirrus, varying from simple fibrous streaks, to dense tufts, to the orphaned anvil contributing at least 50% of the total. A typical sample of a sky where development is * weakening *, i.e. the upper trough/front is breaking up. There is a high westerly component to the cloud motion, suggesting to me that the upper dynamics are losing potency.
