Default Continued unsettled: snow, thunder and waterspouts

Good evening, everyone.

The lowest temperatures of the last at least 13 years have been recorded in
parts of Greece during the last week. The unsettled weather we've been
experiencing in most of the country has brought a bit of everything really

- lying snow down to about 1400m in eastern Epirus and western Macedonia
- about 10 cm of lying hail to areas of Epirus, in the northwest of the
country; grader vehicles had to be called on duty to clear out the streets;
cherry, peach and smoke crops damaged mainly in central Macedonia.
- only some scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy indeed, over most of
continental Greece; not more than 20 mm in Athens per se but it's been a
very pleasant cool spell with temperatures no higher than +25C for the last
days.
- waterspouts yesterday in the Chiliadou area (Evia island, just north of
Athens). Pictures by Dimitris Voyajidakis to be viewed he

Also: video of the same waterspouts to be viewed he

used to describe the phenomenon, hehe). Waterspouts reported also just off
Ierapetra (Crete), in the Libyan sea today -no pics of them available.

I also came across this video here, http://tinyurl.com/qt78r, showing the
snow in the isle of Skiathos last January. I thought it might be of some
interest.

Greetings from a relatively cool Athens (compared to the temperatures I've
been reading you report!)

I notice that some of the Greek synops now carry 24 hour rainfall totals
