Default Today's model interpretation (15/06/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Monday. Issued 0540z,
15 June 06.

The models now show largely settled conditions for England and Wales for the
start of the week, with less settled conditions for Northern Ireland and
Scotland.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
WSW'lies cover Scotland and Northern Ireland, with light winds for England
and Wales from a ridge. There's little change at T+144, but by T+168
WSW'lies encroach southwards as pressure rises over Biscay.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The MetO run is similar to ECM with a ridge over England and Wales and
WSW'lies elsewhere. Winds strengthen from the SW over Scotland and Northern
Ireland at T+144 as a small secondary low develops over the Western Isles.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
A ridge brings light winds to England and Wales with WSW'lies elsewhere.
There are no great changes at T+144 or T+168, although by day 7 a weak
trough covers Scotland with England and Wales remaining under a ridge.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
The Canadian run brings moderate to strong WSW'lies for all areas of the UK
due to a deep low to the NW.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
Light westerlies cover the UK due to a weak trough across the British Isles.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
WSW'lies cover the UK, which lies between a low to the north and a ridge
over Biscay.

Note the date of the phase for this. The phase is for fine weather.

The models now show largely settled conditions for England and Wales for the
start of the week, with less settled conditions for Northern Ireland and
Scotland.

And a lot less settled for our extratropical oriental cousins according
to the Smithsonian:

New Activity/Unrest:
Bulusan, Philippines; Canlaon, Philippines; Heard, Australia; Merapi,
Indonesia; Sakura-jima, Japan; Tongariro, New Zealand.

(Not that there is nothing to report from the other side of the Pacific
of course.)

All in all I am quite pleased with my performance. Got quite a missal
in the works too. Nothing like a lot of well deserved self
aggrandisement is there?

This is a very sudden change in the models. Is there any good explanation
for it? I was rather looking forward to some unsettled weather for a change!

A camping holiday in the Outer Hebrides next weekend could be just what
you need then!

Another sunny morning in Penzance
