There I was, grafting away all last week to earn my pennies and feeling a
bit miffed that I wasn't able to make the most of all this lovely sunshine. Still, not to worry, because we were being told to expect an even hotter weekend with sunshine a-plenty. So, with Sunday being billed as the hottest of the two days, we'd planned to chill out in the garden and bring the weekend to a close with a BBQ. Now I know that most of England was baking on Saturday, except in the north, where I live. Here it was mostly dull and overcast and was interspersed with patchy rain. Sunday has been even worse... still overcast with a couple of showers during the morning then continuous light rain since lunchtime. Far from sizzling, it's been rather cool and a generally disappointing weekend if like me, you were hoping to make the most of the promised sunshine. Did I not pay full attention to the weather forecasts or was this dismal outlook not expected? Regards... David Allan. |

For a greater reliability, see Will Hand's weekly forecasts (issued on this newsgroup on a Thursday) and Darren Prescott's "Today's model interpretation" (daily on this newsgroup). -- Howard Neil |

Did I not pay full attention to the weather forecasts or was this dismal outlook not expected? Saturday was OK here, max of 24.8C you can't complain about. But it was only really sunny in the morning, the afternoon was mostly cloudy. Sunday was dismal. Or at least dismal compared to the forecasts from last Thursday. Then, the rain was expected in the late afternoon/ early evening. It started around 11am. And continued (albeit light and patchy) for much of the day. I could see the forecasts backtracking on the rain's arrival over the intervening days. Col -- Bolton, Lancashire. 160m asl. |
