Default Today's model interpretation (20/06/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Saturday. Issued
0543z, 20 June 06.

The models vary again today with their handling of a potential low to the
SE. They all show a ridge affecting part of the UK by Sunday though with the
runs evenly divided over whether it'll affect Scotland and Northern Ireland
or England and Wales instead. As ever, more runs are needed.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
NW'lies associated with a ridge over the Irish Sea cover the UK. The ridge
moves over England and Wales at T+144, bringing light winds to England and
Wales with SW'lies elsewhere. By T+168 a trough moves over England and
Wales, leading to ENE'lies there and light winds elsewhere.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The MetO run shows northerlies for all with a ridge to the west and an upper
cold pool over the UK. The cold pool and northerlies persist at T+144 for
most, although an eastwards-moving ridge means western Scotland and Northern
Ireland lie under light winds.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
High pressure covers Scotland and the Northern Isles, with ENE'lies for the
rest of the UK. The winds become NE'lies at T+144 as a shallow low moves
over the North Sea. By T+168 the low lies to the east of Scotland with
NW'lies for all.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
The UK is sandwiched between a low to the SE and a ridge to the north, with
ENE'lies for most as a result.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run brings a ridge and northerlies over the UK.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NOGAPS is similar to the Japanese run with a ridge affecting the UK. Winds
are westerlies for Scotland and Northern Ireland with NW'lies or northerlies
elsewhere.
