Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Monday. Issued 0523z,
22 June 06. The models are still somewhat mixed but the general picture is one of increasingly warm conditions for England and Wales with Scotland and Northern Ireland becoming less settled as a trough moves in from the Atlantic. ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif A ridge covers the UK, bringing a mixture of NW'lies and WNW'lies for most areas. The ridge sinks southwards at T+144, leaving the UK under mainly light westerlies. By T+168 a trough moves over Scotland and Northern Ireland, introducing SW'lies across the UK. MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif The MetO run shows a ridge from the Azores High over the UK. SW'lies cover Northern Ireland and Scotland with easterlies across much of England and Wales. The ridge moves ESE'wards at T+144 with light winds for England and Wales. Elsewhere winds are SW'lies due to a shallow low to the NW. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png The UK lies between a ridge over Ireland and a low over Denmark, with light NNW'lies for most places as a result. The winds back SW'ly at T+144 as a trough moves over Northern Ireland and Scotland, followed by WSW'lies at T+168 as pressure builds over France. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html Unavailable today. JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows the UK under a ridge at both T+120 and T+144 with light winds for most areas. The exception is southern England, which lies under ENE'lies from low pressure to the SE and south. NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif A deep low lies to the NW and a ridge covers Biscay. This brings a mixture of westerlies and WNW'lies over the UK, with the lightest winds over England. |
