Default Today's model interpretation (23/06/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0534z, 23 June 06.

The models continue to show a NW/SE split with increasingly settled
conditions the further south and east you are.

ECMWF:
http://www.ecmwf.int/products/foreca...msl_uv850_z500
A trough covers Northern Ireland and Scotland, bringing SW'lies across the
UK. SW'lies persist for Northern Ireland and Scotland at T+144, but by then
winds fall light elsewhere due to a col. A col covers all of the UK at T+168
with light winds for all.

MetO: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...ukmo/pslv.html
The MetO run shows a col and light winds for England and Wales. Elsewhere
winds are SSW'lies or southerlies, due to a trough to the NW. Winds become
light everywhere at T+144 as a col covers the UK.

GFS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/pslv_frame.htm
High pressure lies to the NE and low pressure is centred to the WNW. The UK
lies between the two, with southerlies across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Elsewhere winds are light due to a col, but by T+144 southerlies cover most
areas as the high builds to the west of Norway. The high continues to build
at T+168, leading to a mixture of southerlies and SE'lies for the UK.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
An unseasonably deep low lies to the west with moderate to strong SSW'lies
and southerlies for the UK as a result.

JMA: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...n/jma/jma.html
Southerlies and SW'lies cover the UK, with a trough to the west and a high
to the east.

NOGAPS: http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/da...gaps/pslv.html
NOGAPS shows a deep low to the WNW, a ridge over France and moderate SW'lies
as a result for the UK.
