HEADLINE: VERY DRY. THREE HOT SPELLS. COLD/WET DAY 26TH, THEN WARM END.
[TEMPERATURE] Mean 24hr maximum:... 23.5°C [+3.4 anomaly on eLTA 1971-2000] Mean 24hr minimum:... 12.1°C [+1.5 anomaly on eLTA 1971-2000] Mean of 24hr max & min:... 17.8°C [+2.5 anomaly on eLTA 1971-2000] Rolling 12 month temperature anomaly: +0.5 (was +0.5 end last month) Using the best climatology I can muster for the immediate local area, by the 24hr mean temperature, it looks as if this June just gone has been the warmest since 1976, and runs second to that record month (in a composite series beginning 1971). The anomaly was heavily biased towards the 24hr maxima as can be seen by the above figures. With the ground very dry for the greater part of the month, insolation had maximum effect on low-level temperatures by day. [RAINFALL] Total rainfall/melted snow etc:... 15.4mm [28% of eLTA 1971-2000] ( 8.9mm, or just over half, of that total fell within the rainday of the 26th) Rolling 12 month rainfall anomaly: 93% (was 95% end last month) Rolling 24 month rainfall anomaly: 85% (was 86% end last month) .... Total rainfall for this year (2006) so far: 280 mm, representing 86% of the 'average' that we should have by the end of June (327mm). .... Third notably dry June in a row (2004=47%, 2005=54%, 2006=28%). .... Driest June since 1996 locally, which month was the last in a series of five 'drier-than-average' Junes. .... Driest 'any-month' since September, 2003. .... In a composite local series from 1971-current, June 2006 is in the 'top-5' of driest such-named months. The driest was 1976, followed by 1996. .... However, note that on the 13th, some short-period, high-intensity rainfall was experienced locally, up to 25mm in places not very far away to the north & east (1 - 2 km away), and thus our very low figure should be seen in that context. It could so easily have been 35mm total for the month, rather than 15mm.
