![]() In light of the power failure in North America - I just wondered if we were on a high Aurora alert, or if there had been a solar flare recently? More likely excessive power consumption by ****wits running air conditioners. ======== Email to "j-c" at this site; email to "bogus" will bounce ======== Jack Campin: 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU; 0131 6604760 http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/purrhome.html food intolerance data & recipes, Mac logic fonts, Scots traditional music files and CD-ROMs of Scottish music. |

But in the US they delight in running their aircon so aggressively that you have to wear a jumper indoors to keep from being uncomfortably cold. Setting a higher and more comfortable indoor temperature is a great way to reduce electricity demand during the summer peak. ISTR a 5C higher setting on the thermostat roughly halves electricity usage by an aircon unit. (I think that was for 25C vs 20C with external ambient at 35C) They didn't have much luck last year trying to persuade people to co-operate to avoid power cuts in California. I wonder how it will go today when they start the business week? Regards, -- Martin Brown |
