Lightning bolts and flash floods! (cut and pasted fron news shopper
www.newsshopper.co.uk) FLASH floods brought two towns to a halt and one unlucky home owner lost part of her roof after a lightning strike. As streets in Dartford and Gravesham were turned into flowing rivers, Dartford firefighters were called to the home in Fleet Avenue after flames were seen coming from a loft extension. The fire, which began at 3.30pm, spread across the converted bedroom and caused damage to a mattress and clothing. continued... A Dartford Fire Safety Office spokesman said: "The resident did not realise her house had been hit or was on fire until she was told by neighbours. She has a smoke alarm but had taken the battery out." Rain pounded the pavements for more than an hour and the Met Office says more than a month's worth of rain, almost 54mm, fell on June 13. Milton Road, Swanscombe, and Station Road, Longfield, were also hit by severe flooding, with water one foot high. |

What about all that rain at the start of Wimbledon? "Play got under way at Wimbledon 2006 today with defending champion Roger Federer beginning his bid to win the men's singles title for the fourth time in a row. See the latest scores from SW19 here However, the Swiss star's centre court match against Richard Gasquet, of France, ranked 50th in the world, was suspended due to rain after around 40 minutes with Federer one set ahead at 6-3, 1-2." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770 Obviously overshadowed by the weather for the world cup in Germany. (I wouldn't mind but they bombed our chip shop.) |
