A couple of things from that publication that might be of interest.
1. I hadn't realised that the Hadley Centre maintained a separate site for some of the long-period series that they maintain. Quite a lot of useful stuff via:- www.hadobs.org (This was always available internally to the Met Office, but it's good to see it presented to the general user). 2. Also, a letter from Stephen Burt, correcting the highest mslp pressure known / accepted for the British Isles; rather than 1054.7mbar which has been 'hard-wired' into just about every record-book you can mention, Stephen has found out that an incorrect conversion was applied to the original inHg figure for the Aberdeen observatory figure of 31st January, 1902, and it *should* be 1053.6mbar. Well worth getting hold of a copy of the appropriate issue (July 2006). BTW, for anyone who hasn't taken the magazine for a while, or hasn't come across it before, a subscription to 'Weather' is well worth the money. Details via:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.w...swfaq.htm#5B.2 Martin. -- FAQ & Glossary for uk.sci.weather at:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/uswfaqfr.htm and http://booty.org.uk/booty.weather/metindex.htm |

This is something I took advantage of before graduating last week... :-) Joe |
