That situation is evident for the south after 7 days on the GFS but I
suspect that is a close as it will get.

It's a beauty, there's no question about that! That said, it is
somewhat hard to tell, at first glance, just from where that wind
direction is coming from using slide 3.

I would assume the east then, shall I?:-)

Shame its 12 days out. But we can DREAM.

;-)

I find it no coincidence that:
1. Since SEPTEMBER, almost, the SLRs have been calling February as
"cold", per se, i.e.: NCEP in America,
2. This is happening just as we are nearing the solar minimum.

As I said, we are CLOSE to mending the wrong that 2002 started, I am
pleased to say!:-) :-(

No, this is not a ramp. Just a reminder. In fact, I made a rather
detailed post about back in NOVEMBER on The Weather Outlook forum. Try
and dig it up - it's in one of the old "Winter Talk" threads, most
likely before Justin Williams blew my cover.:-(

Not at all, our best winter for many many years started on 28th Feb
http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive...0120010227.gif

Roads blocked for days, No electric for 5 days Big drifts, evening lows -10
to -18ฐC ......absolute chaos!

Take a look at the archive gfs for this period, it was a low over Norway
that decided to tracked back accross the North Sea, These retrogressions (I
think thats the right word) don't happen often, but when they do it is
always interesting!

That produced a snowstorm to remember here Stuart. Severe drifting and 18
inches of snow, Followed by severe frosts on the next few nights (-13.1บC
was the low at this site).
I'm not so sure it was anything to write home about in Keith's neck of the
woods though?
But I would have to say that particular winter started long before late
February, with a very memorable Christmas period (late december 2000). There
was 4 inches of snow here on that instance and more remakably, more than 120
continuous hours of sub-zero temperatures.

Alex.
