Default re July CET

Stephens remarks that his rural location had given him some cool nights in
July
and notes that many town locations have much higher values. Backed up
perfectly
by my own figures at a small housing estate location on the outskirts of
Reading
and some 8km from Stratfield Mortimer.

Mean min currently running at 15.3 deg C
A difference of 3.4 degrees between the two sites
Mean max 28.0 deg C (perhaps a degree or so high)

I do not have long term averages for this site.

Here, my mean max so far this month is identical to July 1983 so far
(26.8°C) but my mean minimum is well down, 11.9°C vs 14.8°C in 1983.
As a result the mean temperature to date is over 1 degC lower than July
1983's monthly mean.

Now that may not be the case everywhere, because we have caught a few
(very welcome!) cool nights this month, probably because of the rural
location - some of the local towns have had much higher minima on
several nights and the difference may not be so great elsewhere. Of
course, the next few days may well bring some very warm nights - oh joy
:-( - and this might redress the balance somewhat. But I think without
quite a few warm nights to come as well as warm days, we may struggle
to reach 1983's CET mean ...
