Default Today's model interpretation (22/07/06)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Wednesday. Issued
0510z, 22 July 06.

The models are split today. The minor runs (JMA, NGP) along with MetO paint
a hot picture for many areas, albeit gradually cooling as the weekend
approaches. ECM and GFS both show a marked change on the way as northerlies
or NW'lies set in, as low pressure moves over Scandinavia. If not for MetO,
I'd have suggested a change to cooler conditions was likely, but the MetO
and minor runs seem keen to keep the heat going for a bit longer. As ever,
more runs are needed.

ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
A slack low covers England and Wales, leading to light easterlies for all.
The trough deepens at T+144 and by T+168 it continues to deepen and moves
eastwards, leaving the UK under much cooler northerlies and NW'lies.

MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
Light winds cover the UK, which lies under a col. There's little change at
T+144 as the col persists.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
The UK lies under a col with light winds for all. A trough forms to the east
at T+144, introducing northerlies and NW'lies for the UK. The northerlies
continue at T+168, by which time much cooler air covers most areas.

GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
Unavailable today.

JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows SE'lies and easterlies for the UK with a ridge to the
east.

NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NGP is almost a carbon copy of JMA regarding the UK, with a ridge over the
North Sea and a mixture of easterlies and SE'lies as a result.
