Thunder lightning and heavy rain from the SW for the last 15 minutes 22..5 deg C down to 20.5 now, the garden will love this... but not the guy up on scaffolding next door! This seems to be at odds with the forecast which suggested (and still does) a bias towards the southeast and east, with central southern and southwestern areas missing out. Also it seems to be a rather more organised band, more like an organised group of storms moving from the SW than the random, locally-generated distribution that the forecast suggested. Nick Wind got up a bit in last 5 mins nar Gravesend Kent. Sky darkening and a few rumbles around |

Look towards that direction already big cumulus clouds exploding.. I got some nice video footage of some intense lightning over Horsham at around 4am. Calmed down for a bit then more storms mid morning. Sods law says it coincides with me taking my bicycle for a service so I get soaked in the half hour walk back from town. Adam |

Some places are gunna have an interesting day I think Hampshire must be under siege Personally i'm enjoying the fresher conditions out west. Needed a break from the humid stuff for a while East Somerset very Humid, able to hear the Thunder but not a spot of rain, very humid at 73%, recording 120 plus strikes per minute at times. 12.9mm in 3 hours for this rain event in Fareham ... most of which fell in the first hour. Now, I suppose I'll have to cut the grass next week, Grrr!!! ![]() -- Dave Fareham (West) |

Adam Adam, I was beginning to wonder whether anyone was going to mention the tremendous light show last night. It comes as some relief that it was witnessed by someone else (even if you are in West Sussex, so perhaps not the same batch). At the rate of almost 1 flash per second for quite some time, akin to some media photo shoot, it was certainly the most frequent lightning I've seen in this area since the night of 1st/2nd June 1999, the last time I've reported a heavy thunderstorm. Today's effort was nothing in comparison, not even moderate here. Apart from a couple of spindly looking forks playing near the base of the high Ac castellanus cloud last night, all of the lightning was within the cloud ('sheet'). Totally devoid of CG strikes, this display was quite safe to view from outdoors. Cheers, Nigel (Romsey, Hampshire) |
