"Squall tips 82 sailors into sea"

"Eighty-two people taking part in a regatta were rescued from The Wash after
a freak wind overturned 48 of the 50 boats taking part.
The RNLI said the sudden squall reached force 8 or 9 within seconds, tipping
sailors into the sea.
The sailors were taking part in the Hunstanton regatta between the Norfolk
and Lincolnshire coasts."

"80 sailors rescued in freak storm"

"More than 80 sailors had to be rescued from the sea following a freak storm
which capsized all their crafts.

The yachtsman had been competing in a race along the Hunstanton coast on
Saturday at about 5pm when high winds and a small tornado hit them.

All 82 competitors were thrown into the sea as the high winds continued
along with crashing waves, some reported to be as high as 6ft."

More detail in today's local rag

http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/news/...A10%3A58%3A580

or

http://makeashorterlink.com/?B6DA5257D

includes:-

"Those watching from the shore described seeing a huge waterspout coming
across the Wash at about 5pm, wreaking havoc as it tore north.

Seatour operator William Searle said yesterday: "You could see the
waterspout going up about 150ft.

"It went right through the sailors, and the boats went over like a deck of
cards. It is a miracle nobody was hurt.

"I have seen one or two similar type water spouts but not this close and I
think this was the biggest."

More in another local rag. Obviously the reporter is hyperventilating ;-)

"100 CAPSIZED BY FREAK TORNADO
A MASSIVE rescue operation was launched after a freak mini-tornado swept
through two sailing meetings and upturned 66 competing boats, spilling
around100 people into the sea."

Get the fire extinguishers ready as that headline is about to spontaneously
combust...
