Towering Cu has rapidly glaciated in the last ten minutes ... pretty much
due east of here (over north Herts ... Stevenage way perhaps, a bit further). It'll be interesting to see whether it pops up on the radar display shortly. Philip Whipsnade, Beds |

There's a new TCU to the ENE now, closer than the last one so prob between Luton and Stevenage, and it looks as though it could glaciate in the next 10-20mins. Philip Whipsnade, Beds, 214m |

Well, someone's passed overhead here in Ely at around 1530 giving ~20mm in around 30 mins - with the majority falling in 10 mins at a max rate of 150mm/hr and max gust of 42mph. Turning out to be a tolerably damp month this July though admittedly 90% of the total has probably fallen within 60 mins overall - at least that's how it feels. I'll check these figures more carefully at some point but I suspect that they're not far from the truth. JGD |

Today has been very reminiscent of weather I have experienced in Cairns - both in humidity and temperature and big rain drops appearing suddenly out of nowhere. Dave |

A more extended heavy period of rain here in Ely from 1730-2030 giving a total so far since 1530 today of 53.9mm - uncommon for these parts! Cereal farmers in the area who are yet to harvest may be looking at extra drying bills or at least a significant wait before harvest can recommence. Root crop farmers can probably turn off their super-sprinklers for a bit, which will make a change from the past few weeks. A temporary lull now (2100) but may still be more rain to come looking at the twilight sky & radar. JGD |
