Hi, All,
Here's a record this sun lover never thought possible. Copley has just passed an unprecedented 300 hours sun in just one month! Just 10.3mm rain so far (but with heavy showers expected tomorrow) and a screen mean of 17.7C, warmest of any month in this area since at least 1847. Now that's my idea of perfect weather! Full July update on Tuesday. Best wishes, Ken Copley, 253metres asl, nr Barnard Castle, County Durham http://copley.mysite.orange.co.uk |

You're way ahead of the Channel Islands, the West Country, on a par with London, but - as you might expect - behind a string of resorts from Margate to Weymouth. I am right in that you still use a CS recorder? Philip |

Full July update on Tuesday. Best wishes, Ken Well done Ken! I passed my record total of 266.6 (August 1995) a few days ago and fast approaching 300 hours. I use the R&D sunshine sensor. Records here started in 1960! Already passed my record mean of 18.5c (July 1983), up to 19.4c as of July 29th. Rainfall 26.5mm as of 29th July, and with only 20.4mm in June it looks like it could be driest summer since 1976. Despite forecast of heavy showers we've had very little rain today, in fact less than 5mm in the last 22 days! Weston Coyney weather station (North Staffordshire) 220 metres asl -- Graham |

Hi, Dave, I recorded 16.1hr on the middle day of the month which I assume (in a simple way) would give a theoretical max of 31 x 16.1 = 499.1 hours. Thus my final total of 305.6hr is roughly 61% of that total. All sunshine recorded by an R&D sensor btw. Just 4mm today, that's the rain shadow again. Only 14mm for the whole month! All sunshine recorded by an R&D sensor btw. Not as high as I'd imagined but then there where a few wet, thus cloudy, days earlier in the month. Just 4mm today, that's the rain shadow again. Only 14mm for the whole month! It peed it down again just after 2100, best part of another 10mm in 40 or so minutes giving us 27mm today between the first click at 0845 and the last at 2250. The wind has dropped from the F4 of most of the day with gusts to 25mph+ and the temp a pleasant 12C. -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |
