What sort of damage have they done? I think I've mis-spelt pigeons, too. They've "trimmed" the ends of the card (the summer cards, you'll remember, stick out of the holder). Big beak marks, too. Can't think it's anything else. Philip |

I have a feeling that someone put a chicken-wire cage around the sunshine recorder, but can't be certain if it was at BP that I saw this. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK. I'd go along with the Magpie theory: they are latterly quite destructive - turning over stones, digging down into the front 'lawn', attacking the gutters etc., presumably looking for any insect life they can find now that nestlings are in short supply. Yes, I regularly see magpies here, and a couple of jays too, as well as the ubiquitous mega-pigeons. pe |

Years ago at one of the stations I was at, someone wrote in the daily register: "sunshine card eaten by owl". It was suggested the bird was attracted by the flavour of the chemicals with which the cards were treated. -- Graham Davis Bracknell |
