=== This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may unfold next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy and wish to share freely with others. ================================================== ============================== === Summary valid for Sunday 13/08/06 to Saturday 19/08/06 TOI (time of issue) Friday 11/08/06 0800 UK local time This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX, and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten Confidence in this forecast is moderate overall but low for detail. The week will start with the UK under a northerly airstream with moderate or fresh northerly winds and outbreaks of rain. Some of the rain could be heavy in the north. Temperatures around normal, mainly 18-22C in the south and 13-18C in the north. After Tuesday pressure will tend to rise from the west and winds will turn a bit lighter. Sunny spells and showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland but more cloudy over England and Wales and in the south and east, an area of thundery rain is likely to develop as pressure falls over France. Some heavy thunderstorms are possible. Temperatures remaining close to average at around 18-23C in the south and 13-20C in the north. ================================================== ============================== = Prospects for holidaymakers in the SW of England: Fresh northerly winds will ease by Tuesday. Generally quite a bit of cloud and some showers to start the week, but also some spells of sunshine lifting temperatures to 20-22C, but much lower over Dartmoor and Exmoor where some heavy showers are possible. The second half of the week could well be quite wet with occasional rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures 18-21C with an easterly wind developing. Confidence low to moderate. ================================================== ============================== = Will Hand Chief Forecaster HMO/USW -- " I'll be back " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Looks like winds could be very light Monday, especially over Cornwall with that shallow wave to the west. It can often warm up quite nicely under those condtions. Could well be a reasonable surf day, Prah Sands? Graham Penzance |

Do you hold the opinion that there is no other worthwhile place to holiday in the UK? Graham I certainly do not!!! I love the north of England and Scotland for two. However, time is scarce and I don't have time to forecast for all the other parts of the country. It is in much the same vein as I do Dartmoor "winter walking and sledging" forecasts in the winter. It's also easier (and more motivating) to forecast for where I live :-) Sorry, but you will have to look elsewhere for specific holiday forecasts away from the SW. Will (Haytor, Devon, 310m asl) -- |

The narrow, hilly, roads round here are a nightmare in August, roll on the rain and gales in autumn, that'll shift 'em :-) Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |
